From 20th January 2024, our new Back Into Learning policy, which is summarised below, will go live.

Apprentices who fail different components of assessment (on the first attempt at each component) will not be placed Back into Learning, regardless of number of different components.

This is to ensure apprentices are not disadvantaged by a break in the EPA journey which may delay and hinder progress in cases where additional learning is not needed.

Innovate Awarding recommends that apprentices who have failed a particular assessment method for the second (or subsequent) time, should be placed Back into Learning to receive additional support before a further attempt of that assessment method. The undertaking of this recommendation is at the discretion of the Provider and Employer, unless the Assessment Plan has specific rules regarding re-sits and re-takes which take precedence.

For apprentices who fail the same component of assessment for the second (or subsequent) time, a Next Action Decision form is to be completed by the Provider, to confirm whether additional learning is needed (so to place the apprentice on a period of Back into Learning before a re-take) or not needed (so to continue with a re-sit).

Apprentices can be supported while in the EPA window but cannot undertake further training or mock assessments unless placed Back into Learning through this process.

The process to return an apprentice to EPA has not changed. Unless stipulated in the assessment plan that retraining must last for a certain period, the apprentice can be returned once we have confirmation from both them and their employer that they are happy to return to assessment.

We will be in touch with our clients in the new year with further details on this new process. We hope you agree that this process will improve the EPA experience and ensure the right decision are made for apprentices to ensure the best possible chance of success.
