This apprenticeship is for anyone looking to begin a career in the transport industry. Depending on the type of transport system an apprentice’s employer is responsible for, they could be driving buses, coaches or trams. Duties will include the effective and efficient operation of a passenger transport vehicle, driving legally and safely with a high attention to detail and prioritising the safety of the passengers and the wider public. An apprenticeship in passenger transport services is your first stop to a great career in the transport industry.

Gateway Requirements
At Gateway, apprentices must hold a valid UK driving licence (at least Cat B) in order to access the apprenticeship. They must also be 18 years old by the time they are ready to gain their provisional vocational licence (bus and coach only). They must have achieved English and maths qualifications in line with the apprenticeship funding rules.
Observation with Questions
The apprentice will complete a 60 minute observation +/- 10%. The assessment will take place in an environment relating to their normal working environment. The apprentice will be observed demonstrating starting or finishing a service, operating the vehicle, and interacting with passengers and/or colleagues. The assessor will also ask questions after the observation.
Professional Review
The will last for 60 minutes +/-10%. The assessor must be given access to evidence of the apprentice’s structured on-the job learning (for example the journey log) for the review. They will ask twenty scenario-based questions.
The observation and professional review are both graded Pass/Fail. The apprentice needs to pass both assessment methods to achieve a Pass. The last step along your journey will be the receipt of your certificate.
