Bus and coach drivers must have their Category D Licence and Driver CPC. Tram drivers must have their Category B car driving licence. At Gateway, apprentices will submit a portfolio of evidence for review.
Multiple Choice Test
The apprentice will complete a 45 minute multiple choice test, assessing knowledge of their role and responsibilities. This is usually completed online under controlled conditions.
Practical Assessment with Questions
The apprentice will complete a 45 minute practical assessment with questions. The assessment will take place in an environment relating to their normal working environment. The apprentice will be observed demonstrating pre-service checks, destination display and signage activity, and end of service activity. The assessor will also ask at least three questions both during and after the practical assessment.
Interview underpinned by portfolio
The interview will take place with an Innovate Awarding Assessor and will last for 60 minutes. They will ask at least nine questions after reviewing the apprentice’s portfolio of evidence. The portfolio itself will not be marked.
The interview is graded Distinction/Pass/Fail and the observation is graded Pass/Fail. If you achieve a distinction in the interview and a pass in the observation, you will be awarded an overall distinction grade. The last step along your journey will be the receipt of your certificate.
