About the apprenticeship

This occupation is found in small, medium, large, and multinational organisations in private, public and third sectors across all areas of the economy.  Operations managers undertake leadership and management duties with teams and senior managers where there is a requirement to ensure that teams carry out their role to meet organisational goals. They are a key component of all types of business model where there is an operational area or department with a workforce to lead, manage and support.

Assessment methods

Gateway Requirements

To reach Gateway the employer will need to be satisfied that the apprentice is consistently working at, or above, the occupational competence of a Level 5 Operations Manager. At Gateway the apprentice must have achieved Level 2 English and Maths. Have completed an on-programme project, which will form the basis of their written project report. At Gateway the apprentice will submit their portfolio of evidence for review which must be approved before the apprentice begins the EPA period.

Project with Report

After coming through Gateway, the apprentice will work on their 4,000 word project report. The report will need to be submitted to Innovate Awarding by the end of week 12 of the EPA period when the apprentice will also submit their presentation. The apprentice will have 20 minutes to deliver the presentation based on their written project, which will be followed by 40 minutes of questioning, where the Innovate Awarding Assessor will ask the apprentice a minimum of at least six questions.

Professional Discussion Underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence

The professional discussion will take place with an Innovate Awarding Assessor and will last for 60 minutes. They will ask the apprentice at least six questions after reviewing their portfolio of evidence. The portfolio of evidence will not be marked.

Grading

The assessments will be graded as Distinction/ Pass/Fail. The last step along the journey is the receipt of the certificate which will be sent to the employer."
