The Learning Mentor role has emerged within the Education and Training Sector, over the last 30 years as a result of the implementation of sector/specialist (competence-based) qualifications and formalised work-based education and training. Mentoring is today, and has been for centuries, the foundation of vocational training and apprenticeships. The Learning Mentor Standard is the first formal recognition of this role.

Learning Mentor Observations with Q&A
Two Learning Mentor sessions with a minimum of two different learners, totalling 2 hours. Face to face. Apprentice’s workplace. Date, venue and time arranged by EPA with apprentice and employer. Apprentice, Endpoint Assessor (sector expert if required).
Professional Discussion (informed by Showcase Portfolio)
1 hour. Face to face (on same day as observations). Apprentice’s workplace, quiet room free from interruption. Can be scheduled before, in between, after observations. Apprentice, Endpoint Assessor (sector expert if required).
