About the apprenticeship

Improvement Practitioners use a blend of Lean and Six Sigma, project and change management principles and tools to identify and lead the delivery of change across organisational functions and processes. Improvement Practitioners can be found across all sectors and functions including automotive, banking, engineering, food products, IT, property, retail, telecoms, Local and County Councils, NHS, Voluntary / Charity, Utilities, Pharmaceuticals, Insurance, Hospitality etc.

Assessment methods

To reach Gateway the employer must be satisfied that the apprentice is consistently working at, or above, the occupational competence of the Level 4 Improvement Practitioner Standard.

They will also have completed a log which addresses all the KSBs required within the Standard, plus a project portfolio to evidence completion of an improvement project(s).

Multiple choice exam

After coming through Gateway ,the apprentice will undertake a multiple-choice exam to assess their knowledge elements of the standard.. This will comprise 40 questions and last 40 minutes.. This is an open book exam.

Project Report, Presentation and Questioning

The apprentice will write a project report which shows business benefit within one month following the EPA Gateway. They will then present their report, which will be followed by questions.

The presentation will last for 30-40 minutes, and the questioning will last 25-35 minutes for a maximum total of 75 minutes.

Professional Discussion underpinned by Log

The professional discussion will take place with an Innovate Awarding Assessor and will last for 50-60 minutes. They will ask the apprentice a number of questions after reviewing their Log.

Grading

The assessments will be graded as Distinction/Merit/Pass/Fail. The last step along the journey is the receipt of the certificate which will be sent to the employer by the ESFA.
