About the apprenticeship

A Hospitality Accommodation Team Member delivers a range of guest focused services including dining and bar, reception, and housekeeping. Hospitality Accommodation team members move between departments gaining broad based knowledge, skills and experience in the typical operations of hotels, holiday parks and other hospitality businesses offering accommodation to paying guests. They are responsible for the smooth operation of the business, working or sharing information cross-departmentally in order to deliver all the services that make up the guest experience.

Assessment methods

Gateway Requirements

To reach Gateway the employer will need to be satisfied that the apprentice is consistently working at, or above, the occupational competence of the Level 2 Hospitality Accommodation Team Member Standard. At Gateway, apprentices must have completed training towards English and maths qualifications in line with the apprenticeship funding rules. At Gateway,  apprentices will submit a portfolio of evidence for review.

Observation with Questioning

The apprentice will complete a two-and-a-half hour observation and questioning in their workplace carrying out their daily duties. The observational element will take two hours, with 30 minutes for questioning. The apprentice should be observed:

  • interacting with guests and customer service

  • processing payments and transactions

  • communicating with team

  • displaying compliance with professional standards

  • using equipment and technology

The assessor will also ask at least three questions during the practical assessment.

Interview underpinned by Portfolio

The interview will take place with an Innovate Awarding Assessor and will last for 90 minutes. They will ask at least 14 questions after reviewing the apprentice’s portfolio of evidence. The portfolio itself will not be assessed.

Grading

Each assessment will be graded as Distinction/Pass/Fail and the apprentice will receive an overall grade of Distinction/Merit/Pass/Fail. The last step along the journey is the receipt of the certificate which will be sent to the employer.

Resit costs

Observation: £200. Interview: £250.
