About the apprenticeship

This apprenticeship is for those entering the hospitality industry. The primary object of the commis chef apprenticeship is to learn how to carry out the basic functions in every section of the kitchen so that all apprentices have the necessary understanding required to progress on to a senior chef apprenticeship.

Assessment methods

Gateway Requirements

Level 1 Maths and English / Level 2 Maths and English attempted. Portfolio of Evidence.

On-screen test

75 minutes. Online; Anywhere suitable; exam conditions.

Practical Assessment with Questions

180 minute observation and Q&A session. Apprentice’s workplace.

Grading

Fail/Pass/Distinction.

Resit costs

Professional Discussion: £250. Observation: £725. On-Demand Test: 1st re-sit free, £50 thereafter.
